Heritage & Social

It might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think about estate agents and property companies. But a big part of our philosophy involves philanthropy and social ventures.

We’re incredibly proud of our heritage, and we like to do everything we can to shout about it. Our heritage isn’t just what we’re built on. It has evolved and grown as we have and has become something much more – our social purpose.

We are owned by a charitable trust, and an annual dividend of our profits goes towards helping charitable causes get off the ground, both close to home and overseas. These projects aim to tackle huge global issues such as education, employment and housing and while our funding makes crucial steps to helping − we think it’s important to offer more than just a pay cheque. We consider it our duty to go the extra mile, offering mentoring support to charities just getting started, utilising our experience of methods that succeed and putting ourselves out there to commit to the cause as best we can.

So, when you choose us, you know you’re becoming a part of something far, far bigger. To find out more about Andrews Charitable Trust and the projects they support, visit their website.

Our founder

Our founder, Cecil Jackson Cole, not only set up globally renowned charities such as Age UK and Oxfam, but also transformed the way that business and charity are able to work together in harmony.

For Jackson Cole, the purpose of his business was to make money to fund his charitable initiatives, which aimed to tackle poverty and housing issues on both a national and global scale. Before he died, he transferred the owner ship of Andrews Property Group over to two charitable Trusts, The Christian Book Promotion Trust, known as Speaking Volumes and, our main shareholder, Andrews Charitable Trust.

Cecil Jackson-Cole’s legacy goes far beyond his successful business ventures. His shrewd instincts challenged the existing status quo of how charity could relate to business, and revolutionised the way that both parties can work together, to the benefit of each of them.

The Trusts

Andrews Property Group continues to pay an annual dividend of up to 35% of our annual, pre-tax profits to the trusts to this day, totalling over £3.5 million in the decade between 2001 and 2010. To this day, the strategy remains focused on supporting a number of imaginative, smaller projects that have potential to, given the right guidance, funding and support, become long term substantial organisations.

Not allowing for inflation, ACT has provided over £8 million to over 180 charities.

A living legacy

To celebrate turning 70, we wanted to combine forces − both business and charity − to come up with an enduring social project that would honour not only Cecil Jackson-Cole’s legacy, but cement our own. 50 houses, over 50 years. Purchased, renovated and managed using our property expertise, and leased to local charities.
